Did this go out to everyone? Got email from Square Enix asking me to reset my password, I thought it was a scam but when I tried to log in each time the client just auto closed out upon clicking "Play". Further reading the mail it stated someone may have tried to access my account which is impossible since I have an "Authenticator".
Since unable to log in I decided to utilize the link to reset my password and once again regained access to the game.
I haven't had one of these recently (forced password reset), but when I originally registered my code with the game, it made me reset my password.
Maybe someone got your password, tried to log in and got stuck on the authenticator and then it made you change your pass, much like what GW2 makes you do.
If you ever get an email like that never follow the links, instead do it all manually. It may take a little more time but you wont get hacked that way. :)
This happened to me when I logged in to Lodestone on my phone. Now I'm afraid it will happen again, so I'm only logging in to Lodestone on my PC...
