Armored healer?

I absolutely love heavily armored healers, something Final Fantasy has always lacked, to my knowledge. I've always been drawn to them, and they've been a staple of western RPGs since early D&D. Usually they take the form of a paladin or cleric (or in WAR's case, Disciples of Khaine OwO). And I think it'd be sexy as hell if FFXIV set a new precedent for the series and gave us an armored melee healer.

On top of that, we just need more healing jobs period. So who else wants to heal people while looking like a hard-ass?

Yeah, the D&D styled cleric was a staple of the early MMOs yet it seems completely absent lately. I even played that Neverwinter mmo or whatever its called, and you end up throwing spears or something. I forget, but I remember thinking the whole time "I just....wanted a hammer :( Shield would be nice too." I think the best heavily armored healer skillset was probably EQ1 cleric or any of the 3 Dark Age of Camelot's primary healers. I only played WoW a few months after release, so I am not sure how paladin evolved as a healer in that game. But I've always figured paladins should be light healing tanks, not tanky healers. So I don't really count them.

As you say though, its a western RPG thing. And considering how absent it is lately in that category, I suspect you definitely won't see it in FFXIV.

I would really like to see an armored healer for a job or something and needs to look sweet.

Oh yeah, bring on the armored saints! But regarding WAR, warrior priests were my absolute favorite. There's something very special about literally imprinting the holy words on the skulls on your enemies with a big warhammer. :cool:

lol awesome as they were, Warrior Priests were so blatantly overpowered that I can still feel the community's collective rage to this very day, years after the fact.

So kind of like a battlemage, except a battlehealer.

FFXI had heavy armor for healers but the entire game was about doing Sailor Moon battle swaps so the heavy armor was relegated to Weaponskill only gear. Taht being said I'd also like to see a heavy armored healing class even though I despise Clubs/Maces as weapons.

In the original Final Fantasy Red Mages were kinda armoured, they used things like Chain Mail and stuff and could do some healing. Maybe if the Red Mage comes into the game they'll be able to pull it off.

They wore chainmail in FFXI aswell, with a sword and a buckler, but they've never been "healers" persay, more a support class with damage, healing and other support skills/spells. I really hope they add red mage, i loved that in FFXI.

WHM in heavy armor, yes in FFXI. So far, none in FFXIV.
