gear checks?

I was in a group last night, people were able to see the average ilvl of other peoples gear, I just gotta ask... how?

Right click, Examine, napkin math.

Or click target and /check.

Pretty much this, especially since XIVDB shows iLvl and it's easy enough to go look.

I like to calculate my ilevel every now and then when I gain new gear. math is simple and it goes like this: add level of your every item together like this: level 50 gloves + level 60 weapon + level 47 legs = 157. Since there is 3 items in this example, you have to divide the number by 3 to get your average ilevel. In this case its 157:3 = 52,33.

For dragoon there is 12 gear slots so you divide your combined gear level with 12. You don't count job stone or off hand obviously. If your class has off hand item, you have 13 slots and in this case you divide combined gear level by 13.
