[ Chocobos Unleashed ]

G'day Forum,

It seems to me that the creators of FFXIV ARR has brought back many things we remember and love from past FF, however I wonder if anyone has noticed that it's missing any real substance with Chocobos (which I believe is a major part of FF)?

Would anyone other then me like to see a system of Chocobo Breeding? Something that's almost like a craft (but not a separate class) which will allow you to test your chocobo (other then auto combat) in races, seeking/gathering, etc. And let your chocobo grow and perhaps be upgraded with speed, fall-damage resist and perhaps even flight?

I would suggest this not only be an effort based system but also a time based system. It's not something we could simply hard grind to achieve very quickly, but something that would require a player to spend time with their chocobo and wait for an appropriate amount of time to pass for results to take place. This will give us some very unique individuality to our characters as our battle/mount companions will differ in color, style or ability and the world would not be filled with hundreds of Magitek or very similar yellow birds.

I hope others would also look forward to a more developed system of companion within Eorzea, and just as a side note to SE, you should really allow mounts and companions at the same time.

I would like to see a system like FF7 where you have your farm and can capture chocobos, let them grows up and get better chocobo by grouping a female chocobo with a male one :)

In that game you had Green, Black and GOLD chocobo with different powerful skill.
I think this can be a great idea for the future! I hope SE will put it into their own "list of good thing" for the future ;)

A game where SE listen to players suggestions could be really, really awesome :D
And with Housing System could be really easy to add your OWN farm :O

They'll most likely add something like this, give it time.

FF11 had a feature almost exactly how you described. You would breed your chocobo with another player's, and once it was old enough you were able to ride it. It could come in black, blue, red, green, and yellow colors. It also had different stats such as speed and durability (how long you could ride it out on the field). You were supposed to spend time and play with it so it had a nice temperament, too.

There's definitely the potential for all that in this game.

I read somewhere that chocobo breeding will come with housing.
I found it it was in the letter from the producer:

A. Through updates, we're planning to make it possible for players to grow gysahl greens and hatch baby chocobos and raise them. Also, we’re planning underground workshops where crafters can build boats and airships.

mm, I say that actually makes good sense for Chocobo growth and customization to be part of housing. I do hope they make it a proper part of the game, more than just a simple transportation. And I still hope they make it so that you can mount and have a companion at the same time
