The SMN and Carbuncle...

*Sigh* look, I'm just going to be brief... can I keep Carbuncle? He's been my favorite Final Fantasy Summon since I first saw him in Final Fantasy 8, it would mean a lot to me if I could keep summoning him even after I progress the SMN quests.

Yes, I'm aware his attacks will lose 10 potency, and I don't really care. Garuda doesn't interest me very much, the egi isn't my favorite design, I just wanna keep Carbuncle, is that possible? I would love to see a more powerful Light based Carbuncle, like Diamond Carbuncle or Prism Carbuncle, but if I just had the option to switch between garuda and emerald or titan and topaz, I'll be fine.

I can see SCH getting Ruby Carbuncle, which basically has a lot of raidwide buffs and Reflect! This is the version of Carbuncle that is canon across most earlier games in the FF universe.

I know what you mean about Carbuncle - I love the summon and when I learnt White Mage used Arcanist as a sub class I kinda hoped it allowed White Mages to use Carbuncles as well (I know it wouldn't do much, but I can hope).

Anyhows from what I found out so far levelling up my Summoner you do not lose Carbuncle at all and can keep summoning it as normal. Only Scholars lose Carbuncle until change back to Arcanist or switch to Summoner.

Ignore that, having looked it up it seems you lose them for Titan etc :(

I wouldn't mind that either, especially since I do prefer SCH over SMN, though it doesn't quite match the faerie counterparts. It would probably end up making Selene even more useless, though I'm not sure if I'd like a bright red carbuncle as much as the traditional blueish green

As it stands, I'm level 50, but I didn't progress the SMN quests so I actually haven't unlocked Garuda yet. Honestly there isn't much of a loss for that, as Spur is almost identical to Rouse and apparently Enkindle is underwhelming anyway. I'm also playing on the PS3 and my hotbar doesn't have room for Rouse and Spur anyway, especially since you can't have multiple hotbars when you have a pet out, something I really hope changes sometime soon.

I'm more worried about when more content gets released and there may be more pressure to finish questing, like getting egis for leviathan ramuh and shiva if they do get them over time.

Ruby Carbuncle would still be green but have a red gem. Don't understand why that's not how they handled Topaz, either. His body has always been a blueish green, the color of the gem on his forehead is the only thing that's supposed to change.

And the main reason for SCH getting that version of Carby is because it'd cross role lines to give SMN that version of Carbuncle, is all.

New skills go onto a new hotbar that you can switch to with Right Bumper on a corded 360 controller on PC, assuming it'd be R1 on PS3. Basically, I'd put the instants you use on R2 + Buttons and L2 + Buttons, the cast time spells you use on R2 + Dpad and L2 + Dpad, and skills that have a limited cooldown on the alternate page (Think it's 2 when it does start to populate?) with a straight locked bar off to the side with all the same cooldown icons there so you can watch when they come off cooldown and then switch to your alternate page of hotkeys to reactivate them when they do.

I actually started messing with controls just now and figured that out myself :p I'd been playing the entire game with the pet hotbar, and found out I could disable it. thanks anyway though
