Manipulation crafting ability causing synthesis to fail

Manipulation reads that it restores 10 durability for 3 turns. If I have 10 durability remaining and use manipulation, on my next durability costing ability (like basic synthesis) most of the time, my durability remains at 10 (the expected behavior).

Sometimes with manipulation up (the buff says it has 3 charges on it), I'll use a durability costing move and the synthesis will fail (durability drops to 0).

Even stranger, I'd swear that my materials are being returned to me. So, it is a failure, but you get the materials back. I'm unsure if I get the crystals/shards back. I don't keep track of those.
