"Installation requires Windows Vista Service Pack 2. Please carry out Windows update"
*edit* Issue solved, thanks for the tips.
Purchased the digital download yesterday and I am trying to install a second copy on a older computer running Windows Vista. However, I can't even begin installation and I keep getting the error: "Installation requires Windows Vista Service Pack 2. Please carry out a Windows update"
At the bottom of the digital download page they state this as being a known issue and offer a fix:
If an error requesting that you install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 occurs during installation, please follow these steps:
1. Right-click ffxivsetup.exe and open "Properties."
2. In the "Compatibility" tab, click "Change settings for all users."
3. Uncheck the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and click "Apply."
*edit* I just realized this is only a fix for 7, my issue may be different altogether.
This does not work. I saved the run link to the desktop and in properties I went to change the compatibility and the box was already un-checked for running in compatibility mode. For current user and all users. I even turned the compatibility on and then back off and still didn't work.
The only hard disc version I have for the game is 1.0. I explored the disc and took the same steps. Still nothing.
Please help.

1) For your windows 7 do you have all the latest windows updates installed?
2) I see you already tried above right-click properties stuff, searching on google shows that above method you tried worked for most. Wonder what's different this time.

Yeah, it's all up to date. Think there may one optional update for nvidia which I usually update straight through nvidia. I did a bunch of searching myself and found that this had worked for most people, kind of frustrating. One work around I may try when I get home tonight is to copy the entire ARR folder from my computer that runs Windows 7 to the Vista one.

Oops, I mis-typed the original statement. I am using Vista on second computer, the computer that works is using 7. I am pretty sure it's up to date. I will try to re-install service pack for Vista if I can.

Nah, my mistake, I am using windows Vista. But I am pretty certain it is up to date. The problem still stands, however, the fix was for windows 7. I will take Brises advice when I get home tonight and see if the update shows on the list. Hopefully I am just being derpy.
