Materia Meld Advice

I'm looking into getting an HQ Gryphonskin tunic instead of a DL body for my Bard. What should my priority of stats be for the quintuple meld?

From what I understand, HQ gear naturally "maxes" all its base stats, so the only Materia you'll be able to add that would be useful is Crit rate.

I see. Another question I have is when I look at quintuple melds I see descending tiers of materia. Is this for better success rate? Or is it because you're slowly starting to reach the cap?
