Char runs out of control

I have tried the W as well as the key pad to walk and navigate. Is it just the way the char moves or is there a setting that makes walking/running more smooth? Also after taking my finger off my char runs for like 4 or 5 steps b4 she stops.

If you start running, then press the R key, it will auto-run. That way, you don't have to leave your finger on the W key.

Like Vydarr said if you push "r" while in motion it will activate the auto run. As for the extra steps after removing your finger it's just the way the game is set up or at least I have the same thing.

On my computer my character runs smoothly. I only get other peoples character glitching when running beside them. Sometimes it looks like they stop but then they run really quick and catch back up to you and start running normal beside you again. Must be the way data is sent to and from the server. Happened in XI and is more frequent in XIV.
When I release the run key my character takes 2 steps. This is just the animation of the character slowing down from running and coming to a stop. More realistic movements other then running and coming to a complete stop.

They went for realistic movement rather than good controls.

The controls are like ANY other game...what are you complaining about?

The extra few steps thing is because of the mo cap they used for the game. The movement in most of the movements and emotes was mo capped and as such has a much more realistic feel. Just like a real person can't just magically stop dead from a run neither can the characters in the game.

Aside from that I don't understand what can be out of control in regards to the movement.

I think that is just graphical lag you are having. I know it happens to me when I have my graphics turned up too high, there is a delay in your press and release of buttons. I notice it when I have ambient occulsion turned on and general drawing at 9 or 10

LOL, all this time I thought it was just my controller... I kept trying to calibrate my controller and even took one back in exchange claiming I had a bad controller... yeah this really needs to be fixed because it is annoying the crap out of me. My character keeps walking after I stop moving the controller, and sometimes will just randomly strafe to the side.
