Can someone please briefly explain to me what the hell is happening in the intro movie?
Ive seen it numerous times and still trying piece it together what the hell is going on and why. Mostly up until the group of people get ''teleported'' by the old guy on the hill i am thinking ''what is going on, who is that, what is that'' etc.
I never played the first edition of this MMO.
As the foretold Seventh Umbral Era approached, many of the high level "Heroes" could not care less. They were too busy crafting, loafing around, mass murdering weak mooks and complaining about the world in general. As the war raged between multiple factions, some military brass dude gets the brilliantly stupid idea of smashing the moon into the planet to wipe out his enemies and sets his plans into action.
The armies realize what is happening, and everyone who didn't want to get smashed by a moon rallies to defeat him. Too bad though, because by the time they smoke the dude, the moon discovers the power of gravity. So they then turn to the old dude in the intro movie and he wants to summon 12 powerful, big ass ancient gods to lay some smack down on that hunk of rock. But you have to run the ceremony at the point of the moon's impact, because the gods hate walking.
No biggie,so they proceed to the impact point but lo and behold, the enemy is there too and they still wanna fight (BTW, that's the battle you see in the intro). So the moon comes mighty close, and BLAM! it opens up like a puzzle box because its actually the prison of Bahamut! (the dragon racking a major kill count in the intro) The old dude tries to save the army, but it doesn't really work and a lot of em get fried. So now, the old dude tries to seal the free dragon (That's the whole pillars of light routine in the intro movie), but apparently Bahamut has better magic resistance than he thought, and the spell fails.
With no tank to take aggro, Bahamut gets pissed at the mage dude and starts charging its ultimate. Seeing this, the old dude knows the raid is going to wipe, so he casts a shield on the main heroes to freeze them save and sound in time. After a time, the heroes unfreeze and join in on the rebuilding effort with the remaining survivors.
Thats the story in a nutshell.
It is a video depicting the "Calamity" When Bahamut was summoned and brought destruction to Eorzea. I can't remember the name.of the battle off the top of my head (I know its starts with a C and sounds french.) But it was during a battle between the three Grand Companies and the Garlean Empire. The people you see on top of the cliff are the three leaders of the Grand Companies.
The people praying, summoning the power of the Guardian Deities to stop Bahamut, are the Scions. I can't remember the name of the old man either.
The people fighting are either the "Warriors of Light" or the player character as a whole. Hence why most of the main classes are represented.

There are 2 videos. One is the intro movie when you start the client for the first time. The other one when you do not press the Start.
I have actually already seen that youtube video. Having not played the original game, a lot of it may as well have been spoken in German for all it means to me.

in a nutshell:
- a top brass in the military tried to smash the moon onto eorzea
- he was defeated
- his subordinates did not reconcile with his defeat and proceeded with he conquest, believing the fall of the red moon would give them tactical advantage
- the battle in the movie took place. bahamut was unleashed
- prior to the battle, the old guy made the adventurers go around the continent to pray to the gods in a bid to summon them to resist the red moon
- the gods answered the prayers, but their efforts to contain bahamut was futile
- the old guy did some spell which saved the adventurers from bahamut\\'s wrath
*spoiler*
you are the adventurer the old guy saved. memories of you were erased from everyone\\'s head, but the memory returned at the end of the story.
what the old guy did to you is unclear, and why he did it was also unclear, and the reason for this memory erase is also left unclear.
