Unpolished diamond

That would be my question, is this game an unpolished diamond yes or no?
What do people think?
When I play the game I see a lot of things I enjoy.

- Atmosphere
- Crafting
- PVE
- Music
- Job system
- Oldschool gameplay
- It's Final Fantasy


Some of these weight heavy for me in all in all the game looks worth a sub for half a year.
I play the game more than I should at the moment and it's a great ride.

On the other hand there is this

- Customer support/service and general communication, it isn't good.
- Lack of end game 4 man dungeons to gear up, running AK is terrible speed run or not.
-The build in delay and current server lag, doesn't help if you are not from NA either.
- New jobs will mean grinding the zergfest fate vs rolling an alt aka gold/quests.
- Lots of missing UI features that would streamline the game (AH/Right click ignore)
- Extreme amount of gold sellers, I've never seen it this bad before.
- Bit of an gil issue, economy doesn't feel stream lined all actions against RMT harm the normal player more and in the end we're still being spammed.


What it feels like to me is that the game is an unpolished diamond.
It has a lot to go for and it seems a lot of fun.

What drags it down for me is everything that is pretty much more related to customer service and the technical aspect, it's horrible.


The question would be, is this game worth a sup if these negative parts aren't being addressed?
Is the fact that the game is pretty damn good enough to cover that up?


For me well it's 50/50 , I am leaning towards no.

The early/mid game is great in XIV, the endgame and economy are really really lacking.

The main issue is honestly you run though everything once to get your relic. Spam AK non stop until you get 300 mythology. And do 1 of each coil of baha lab a week. (when crystal tower comes out if it is what Yoshida said.... then it is negated on day 1, because the gear is weaker then lab gear and you do not need it to progress)

Endgame gets a 3/10 from me atm, due to the extreme linear design, lack of relevant content once you progress into higher endgame, and extreme anti guild design (combination of forced lowman and weekly lockouts for everyone who beats it)


Crafting System gets a 4/10 from me. Best crafting and garthering in a mmo... but the economy is so stupidly broken and gear is handed to people who just walk into a dungeon crafting is 100% irrelevant in ARR. The complete lack of an economy makes the best crafting/gathering system in the genre null and void unfortunately.

SE is dropping the ball hardcore in terms of economy and endgame atm.

We have a shiny rock not a diamond atm. Everyone is "oow,ahh,pretty" at the start, but in the end it is not a diamond it is just a shinny rock. SE has alot of work ahead of them if they want this game to be a major hit still in say 2-3yrs.

-I agree the CS is horrifically bad right now. I'm hoping it is because of the unexpected influx of players and SE will eventually build up a proper NA/EU CS force, but right now I would rate the CS at the very bottom of what I have experienced in gaming in my life.

-I disagree, There are 2 real 4 man end game dungeons. People just focus on AK because it is the shortcut to the highest quality of gear. As for a launch state game which this is even though it may be a (re)launch there is more end game content then 95% of the mmos at launch had. With 2 full 4 man dungeons 2 full 8 man story based dungeons and 4 single boss 8 man primal fights. There are 2 tiers of end game gear including 2 tiers of relic weapons that take more than a little time to get. Do I want more to farm ToMs? yes I do but can I complain about a lack of end game content? no I can not.

-Server lag is higher than I care it to be but it isn't game breaking and with a bit of work and lighter server loads this will be fixed I'm sure.

-Grinding new jobs is better than 1.0 and XI there is plenty to do do level additional jobs people are just too programmed to think the only way to level is questing. People get burned out on leveling especially when they power through it in less than 2 weeks.

-The UI does need some work, but it is already modular which is better than most MMOs and again is not game breaking just would be nice to have more. Although a right click report/ignore is something they do need to implement I agree.

-Gil sellers or RMTs are a plague upon every major MMO launch and because someone dropped the ball with the right click report/ignore they are running unchecked for the time being. I know from experience that SE is far better at enforcing a no tolerance standard when it comes to RMT so I see this being a very temporary issue.

-I also agree the economy needs a bit of work, they told us legacy people that they are cutting out gil to 1/10th of what we had and said that doesn't mean you will be poor but everything will be 1/10th the prices. They lied we are poor and getting more poor except those that could handle gathering/crafting whish I tried and couldn't stand it. So I agree here we need more ways for battle classes to earn their way.

Overall I agree that with some polishing this game could be amazing, I feel it already is but yes SE still has their work cut out for them.
