Tri-Disaster?

So, I got 40 on my SMN a few days ago and did the quest to get Tri-Disaster. What's the point of this spell? It does hardly any damage whatsoever. The only use I've found for it is in FATEs where there are big groups of monsters (that don't die before I finish casting). I've already got to 46 and still haven't found a useful situation for it. Is it just one of those worthless spells or am I missing something?

Bind the mobs and get to a safer loaction

I get the usefulness of an AoE bind, and when I first cast it the timer shows 20 seconds. But it actually seems to only last for about 2 or 3 seconds. Does the monster getting hit cancel the bind or something?

Yes, if you hit a bound enemy it cancels the affect. Exactly how sleep works as well.

Removing an enemy from combat for 20secs while being able to pound on him would be insanely OP.

DoT remove bind,
use with caution

better than Freeze at least, although the tooltip for freeze seems to indicate that its actually meant to be a ground effect that binds anything that enters it for 20 seconds after you cast, but that isn't the case.

I don't think it breaks if you DOT them first before binding them.

Cast it on Garuda when the message pops up that adds are coming :-) Keeps them from scattering. Then drop Bane on them.

This. So good. ESP swift cast Tri followed by a baned bio or w/e goes a long way. You could even lay down the AOE pool first an really get a head start.
