In Game Sound Issues

While playing the game my sound often "skips", or disappears (like the sound of footsteps or music) whenever I am in a crowded city or FATE. I have an older PC and I have tried everything from turning down settings to double checking that all of my drivers are up to date (they are).

I have seen some other posts mentioning this issue but I have yet to find any solution either here or as a result of my Google searches. I should add that FFXIV is the only game that I have this issue on.

Anyone have any ideas or a solution?
