Suggestion for Implementing Player Duels

Dear Square Enix and Dev. Team,

One of the greatest things about MMO's is their ability to make a person feel accomplished for something petty and meaningless. One of the most fantastic ways that prior MMO's (Read: World of Warcraft) gave people a quick ego boost was duels. Duels were a quick and easy way to pass the time while waiting for instances, world events, or quelling boredom. Because the duel feature was as simple as right clicking the individual you wanted to challenge, players created hubs and communities where they could test their mettle; to no detriment of the game. With the simple existence of duels, players had yet another reason to attain the best gear, master different controls, and developing a more intimate understanding of their abilities and how they are best used. This in turn assisted in other aspects of their class's gameplay.

Duels teach people not to stand in void zones, the value of a stun or a one second silence, the importance of keeping that DoT on a target, and other things that translate directly to PvE. As an added bonus, Duels have no impact on the lore or flow of the game.Nobody dies, the duel ends when the loser would otherwise have been killed, and one person feels superior while the other feels like they need to learn their class better. There is no reasonable downside to this feature.

There are arguably many more reasons for implementing this feature in a simple *right click target, opponent accepts* manner. One of the greatest things about duels is they could be done virtually anywhere, at any point of boredom. Two people didn't have to agree they wanted to duel, teleport to the nearest city, sign waivers in triplicate, and then turn them into the Vice Duel Chancellor before stepping into the arena for likely a 30 second duel. It was a right click and two button presses. Dueling is a great way to coax players into a deeper understanding of their class mechanics. It would be lucrative, and not detrimental to the overall flow of FF14: ARR, to add this mechanic to the game.
