Madman's Whispering Rod
Good afternoon,
I actually made a HQ Whispering Rod this morning on my first try to get my Relic going, no great feat - but then I was checking out the stats compared to the NQ and the ilevel 70 weapons in addition to Primal Weapons and realized it's not really that bad.
NQ Madman's is:
53 DMG
12 VIT
14 MND
12 PIE
14 SPD
3 Slots
HQ Madman's:
59 DMG
14 VIT
15 MND
14 PIE
18 SPD
3 Slots
and for comparison's sake:
NQ ilevel 70 crafted weapon:
57 DMG
17 VIT
20 MND
15 PIE
16 SPD
2 slots
Ifrit's Cane:
60 DMG
Vitality +17
Mind +18
Piety +11
Fire Resistance +10
Determination +18
Garuda's Wile:
DMG: 63
Vitality +15
Mind +16
Piety +9
Wind Resistance +9
Spell Speed +21

So what do you think about that lineup? With 3 materia slots, depending on the stat cap of the weapon - Madman's HQ seems to be better then Ifrit's Cane. Garuda's may be the clear winner depending on how much MND you could squeeze into the Madman's HQ because of it's higher base healing, my guess would be Garuda's would pull ahead.
These things are (relatively) cheap if you have a 50 and can farm for an hour, you could probably buy 1 and one of the needed materia.
I was debating on selling it for a profit and using it myself and doing a different Relic for another job - since it seems like it would at least be good enough to do Garuda and maybe Titan.
What are everyone's thoughts?

My thoughts ? use the Madman to get my relic and have a weapon that is the clear winner.

You don't need a HQ madman's to use for your relic. Just use that one for fighting and make a cheap NQ one for relic.
Ifrit's is slightly better than Madmans but not enough that you would want to farm specifically for the cane. If you get your hands on Garuda's or Titan's weapons then you should ditch the madman rod immediately. The Magic Damage difference is noticeable on heals.
Also keep in mind that Garuda's Wile has deceptively low stats. You can equip a shield with it which can be +3-4 or more per stat.
