Vote Sentinel for Lancer 2nd Job

Lancer gears are heavy on defense later once they get into scale armor. Also the Guards in Gridarnia are known as Sentinels despite being Lancers. these Sentinels of Gridarnia are more like tanks than DD.

Sentinels was also originally going to be a 3rd tank class but the FF14 team decided to combine Sentinel into Gladiator.

Sentinel's roles are natural damage reduction tanks like Paladin which Lancer has Damage reduction skills as well such as Keen Fury which improves Parry rate to reduce damage taken.

The beginning Lancer story quests all focus on telling you that being a Lancer is about being fearless and throwing everything into offense, forgoing defense. A Lancer who goes on the defensive may as well be stabbing himself basically. That's what the game teaches you anyway.

Actually the Lancer storyline is about the meaning of True Courage.

The Lancer's Rival ideal of courage was nothing but recklessness which is why it lead to his downfall. His ideal was to throw everything into offense to be fearless. It is what he is trying to teach you during the first 15 levels of our lancer training but once you hit lvl 20 the lancer instructor will begin to interfere with his method and ideal of Courage and show us the True meaning of Courage

Our Lancer instructor taught us that Courage is not about being reckless and charging into battle recklessly but to have the resolve to hold your ground against any opponent without any doubts.

It a base ideal fit for a melee DD and a Tank because as a Melee DD you must have the resolve to fight your enemies in close combat knowing that you are more vulnerable to attacks because you can't have a distance advantage like a Ranger DD while a Tank must have the resolve to face a enemy head on because as the Tank it will be their job to protect the others from harm.

Given that Scale armor is identical in stats to tank armor, I don't find it unlikely that the second job will be a tank. Note, though, that no other jobs have names based on other characters -- there aren't a lot of Dragoons, White Mages, Scholars, Warriors, or Paladins standing guard. I personally figured Templar would be a good one, being another lance-wielding FF job. Still, only time will tell.

Really, though, what I want is a chain on the lance so we can go all Scorpion on mobs. GET OVER HERE!

There was already a Sentinel in 1.0 as 2nd class. Everyone who weared a shield was also a Sentinel (GLA, THM and CNJ). It got removed and Gladiator got all the shield skills for himself.

I leveled my Sentinel to 50 with Thaumaturge in the good old days ^^

Aren't JOBs usually iconic FF jobs, such as Black Mage, Summoner, Dragoon, etc? Whereas a CLASS is usually generically named, such as Gladiator, Sentinel, etc.

Hmm, I'm not sure how you would implement elements into Templar. What elements would you use? What would Lifebreak be? What role would an elemental Templar fill?

Could definitely do elements with Marauder, though. Water + Thunder + Marauder = Viking.

It would be a challenge. I'm really just attempting to channel a bangaa here :P. I'd imagine holy or arcane elements, but I don't see why we couldn't grab wind off of bishop (since I doubt it would be implemented).

Ya templar sounds like a possible Job for Lancer as well. Also they already have a good setting for Templar being in Ishgard due to how Ishgard is a Catholic themed City State with a Crusade and Religious Chosen by God superiority complex to boot.
