Square-Enix can get a lot out of this game just by ramping up the nostalgia value associated with past FF's. I remember maybe 2 story quests so far that had the FF2 battle music playing during the battle that got me so pumped! What if we could unlock other FF music that plays at certain times, such as Terra's theme during overworld travel and different battle/boss music?
For that matter, and this is a long shot, but eventually adding non-canonical end-game dungeons featuring stuff like fighting through Pandaemonium to get to the Emperor of Palamecia, climbing Kefka's Tower and fighting the three Goddesses to get to Kefka, a Trial having us fight Sepheroth, all that would be so awesome later on. Do it, SE, whore out the nostalgia factor!

I think what they are doing with Nostalgia is very good, how they are pacing it so it's not the entire game (Remember we also have The Crystal Tower and Gold Saucer coming in later patches... not to mention Gunblades, Magitek, Materia already in the game)

I can certainly understand using music, weapons, spells, and names from the previous Final Fantasy titles but I don't think the inclusion of Antagonists from the other incarnations would work well. Square have always kept the games as worlds seperate to one another. Plenty of aspects carry through each (There's always a Cid, Biggs and Wedge occur in multiple games) but they've been careful to make the character unique to each "universe". Trying to pluck Kefka, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja, etc out of their respective worlds and just drop them into Eorzea would be detrimental IMHO.

I rather like the way they are doing things. I mean, nostalgia, discovering things in the storyline that literally had me curious (the last one was where I "met" Cid) - I think they're all fine as currently stands. Inter-mixing other worlds and lore into this one, even in just a dungeon, is a horrible idea. For one, this game is very different from those that you're talking about. Chances are extremely high that, if something like this were indeed implemented, half of the people that wanted it would probably feel that it wasn't done well enough to do justice to their memories. That's the thing about nostalgia - things always seem perfect in hindsight, but never really are.

I thought they had plans of some sort that would having Lightning making some sort of appearance. I'll have to ask my brother next time I see him. I could see them doing something like this since SE seems to think so very highly of her and ff13. I would much rather see Kefka make an appearance. They have magitek armor so at least thats some link they could use to work him in somehow.
SE will probably give us a new alchemist ability to throw potions and allow them to come as healers to dungeons or bedazzled coats like Snow had that make you more powerful depending on what bedazzle pattern you have on the back of it. -

Well both Hein and Cloud of Darkness from FF3 have some very nice concept art for their possible appearance in the Crystal Tower, so despite agreeing with Astellia, in regards to not wanting old villains to show up (except Gilgamesh, but he is the ultimate cross-over villain), it is quite likely to happen.

There's already enough nostalgia in this game, from references to music to enemy design to the characters. This is as true as Final Fantasy gets, mate.
