What you want and expect Lancer to be

So hey everyone I thought I would try to get these Lancer forums more active by doing something fun.

1. What were your ideas and expectations of Lancer when you started FFXIV?

2. How is Lancer different then what you expected?

3. What kind of changes would you all like to see in the future for Lancer?

So come on people lets get some ideas and discussion going to make Lancer forums a more active friendly place!

So I guess I will start things off.

1. Well from the description I expected Lancer to be a Samurai with Spears/Lances

2. Well it isn't that much different from what I expected but without the whole skillchain system it seems kinda bland being able to spam weaponskills. Then again since I have been soloing so much I haven't had the opportunity to try Battle Regimen yet.

3. I wouldn't mind seeing Lancer expand on the whole TP mongering by maybe being able to give party members a portion of your tp or maybe instead of simply wiping tp with twisting vice being able to steal monster tp.


Also feel free to add anything you think I missed too.

1.Hmmm basicly I play lancer is cause I can wear heavy armor and I like spear better then Axe and I don't like being Tank.

2. Lancer are not damage as powerful as I image with lancer ability. But lancer do have lot good point and can support well in fight with increase tp and reduce tp and wipe out tp.

3. Well just hope add some more cool animation with ability and at least give us some more hp XD. how come we are lowest hp with able wear heavy armor XD.

1. I was expecting a debuffing class, which is basically what I got. I disagree with the poster above me in that I don't think damage should be a focus of the class.

2. I expected lancers to be more mobile. The classes plays far too much like the other DoW classes, honestly.

3. It's not one of my primary classes, but I would like the feel to be more dragoonish that what we currently have. Atm, it feels like marauder with a different aoe style.

1. I expected it to be a DD like Drg honestly. With some debuffing.enfeebling abilities

2. It requires alot of positioning to get my AoE weaponskills right.

3. I would love to be able to one day get the title of a Dragoon and have different job settings for whenever I feel like DDing or tanking. Would also like to have a quest to be able to get a wyvren.

oh you mistake me. I didnt said focus on damage. Like the sec question said 2. How is Lancer different then what you expected?

I said Lancer damage is not as powerful as I >"image"< with lancer ability. I didnt said We need more damage or we are weak with damage. As you can see.
If you don't undestand what my english is said is acceptble :D.

1. When i first started out lnc, i expected it to be something like drg from ffxi with the "jump" abilities.
2. It turns out to be completely different what i have expected. Lnc turns out to be more fun than what i have imagine. Haha what other job give you the abilities to absorb hp with each attack, give you some sort of haste like ability and give you the ability to boost your tp gain.
3. I would like to see what "Life surge II" will be like and please please give me my "jump" abilities :P

For me, I consider LNC to be more of a support/enfeebler.

Lancer is a DD with both Party Status Buffs and Enemy Debuffs.
Lancer is meant to build up TP as fast as possible then drain it into moves such as. Doomspike (which requires 2000TP However you can pump ALL 3000 Into it to do MORE DAMAGE)

Some party status buffs or debuffs that help the party kill the enemy.

Comrade in Arms - Bolster morale, inflicting the target with an enfeebling effect which grants attacking party members enhanced TP generation

Twisting Vice - Stab and twist, dealing piercing damage and wiping out the target's TP.

And a 2 great buffs for the lancer which also affect the party!

Speed Surge - Wield your weapon deftly, increasing stamina regeneration. Hitting the target inflicts an enfeebling status which grants attacking party members the ability to absorb HP.

Life Surge - Make sport of an enemy, granting yourself an enhancing status which grants the ability to absorb HP. While active, successful attacks reduce the target's evasion.

All in all I LOVE LANCER!! I am ranking up other jobs however. THM has more debuffs for my lancer :) such as all the absorb spells. Those are wonderful!

I agree with most people in this thread that feel lancer is a DD Buff/Debuff class.

I do not feel Lancer should ever be a tanking class, it is a unique DD class and I love it!

1 & 2. Totally expected a subpar DD with jumps & possibly pets, was very surprised and happy to see they took it in a support class-type role.

3. I'd like to see Lancer stick with it's DD/support role that it looks like it'll be filling, although this makes me sad because if a Great Katana-wielding class is introduced, it won't be the same as SAM previously since Lancer seems to be filling the TP monster shoes.

Lancer has the potential to be a very interesting and fun support class. I don't feel that the current battle system/mechanics along with zerg-oriented Behests/Leves allows Lancer to really shine though, unfortunately. Lancer being heavily TP support-oriented is what is drawing me to the class since I'm a former SAM-lover. But like I said, great amazing potential, but none of it is getting used yet. Hoping for a beastly Lancer once the battle changes drop.

1: I was expecting a heavy DD. LNC always was one of the strongest DDs of FF series and still we could see people frustrated with dragoon in FFXI...so i was expecting it to be much stronger here.

2: Here LNC is pretty much a DD + support class...i'd say its more like FFXI's DNC than DRG.

3: Since new classes are coming, i'd expect LNC to become even more support directed, with more surge skills, more low TP WS with cool debuffs and stuff, while a possible DRG being the real polearm DD of this game.
