Also what is a Linkshell?

You can get a linkshell for free, I guess just look for the Linkshell Distributor (their name has this underneath it, or something like it).

You can create FCs after joining a Grand Company, it costs a bit to make though.

After reaching level 20 Story Quests you'll be prompted to join a Grand Company.
After that you can apply to register a Free Company but you need:
3 Signatures of players who are NOT in a Free Company already
A total sum of 15k Gil

Then return to the OIC Administrator and turn the petition in and you'll be set.

In a short - LinkShell is just a dedicated chat channel.
Free company is to join the players together, level up the company and use the FC bonuses lilke Storage chest, housing (comming in future) and in general to socialize.
