Need Warrior tank guidance/help - thanks

Im beginning to enter the level 35+ dungeons and starting to see some difference in how much damage i take compared to the lower level dungeons.

So basically i got a few questions.

Obviously our main stats is str/vit.

How high would you rate parry stat ?

What materia should i be aiming for ?


PS. If you know a great Warrior tanking guide, i would love to read it.

Id say you should be aiming for +vit in materia.

Parry dmg reduction doesnt go that high (20-26% (depending on str (@lv50 243~471)),
and even if you have say 50% parry activation rates (probably requires insane amounts of +parry),
that would still only come out to ~10-13% damage reduction overall.

Then factor in that you cannot parry certain moves ect... and the overall effect is not that great, compaired to the tradeoffs.


Im not that high a level, but the biggest impact on my survivability by far so far have been from good physical / magical defense stats on armors, and vitality.

Parry isn't the only thing that you get from Strength though. When you get more self heals that are based on your damage, you will want to do more damage so you can get more healing done on yourself. Unfortunately I don't know of any guide that shows you actual numbers. How much damage mitigation does each point of strength give you for example? So it's hard to decide how much to go with strength and vitality. At the moment I am doing half and half, it's served me well so far but I don't have numbers that tell me if it's best. My Inner Beast heals me in excess of 1/4 of my health. Not quite 1/3.

I don't think anyone can give you an exact breakdown of how much you should put where and claim truthfully that it's the most proficient way of doing things because the numbers aren't out yet. People will tell you what they think is right but I am not convinced until I see numbers.

I read some threads where Warriors are considered squishy for end game. I do wonder however if that's due to the fact that nobody cracked the ratios yet. At the same I also know of Warriors tanking hard modes just fine.

I noticed a great difference on Brayflox Longstop tanking after I upgraded my gear to GC greens, always try to keep your gear updated with greens from GC and you should have way less problems with spikes in damage.

Lets just say 1str is about +0.33% damage (or less)

Hitting harder will make your "Inner beast" & "bloodbath" cure you for more,
part of that is offset by Vitality increase health pool => higher passive regen effect incombat.

STR=>innnerbeast dmg=> higher cure amount = meh.
Have to be able to survive until next innerbeast meanwhile.

I think undergeared level 50 warriors would benefit more from putting all 30 points into vitality.

Obviously someone just needs to dump all points into VIT and run through a 5min parse to see how much self healing they do, then put all 30 into STR and do it again to see the % increase to get an estimate just on the self healing factor. With 30pts into VIT that's only 540hp for us correct? (18hp per VIT for MRD/WAR I think?) At 46 bosses already hit me for a good chunk of that, not sure how hard they are hitting at 50 but I can't imagine a 540hp buffer will make or break anything?

Sorry to jack your post but I didn't want to create a thread. I was thinking of changing from male highlander to a lalafel. My worry is, will I suffer from reduced damage and hp? I don't want to switch if it is going to have a large adverse affect.

At Level 50 the majority of us are rolling full VIT. The STR doesn't do much for us. Increases damage by 1~2% and improves how much damage our parries stop. STR doesn't effect our Parry rate. That's DEX and +parry.

Keep wrath up as long as you can before Inner Beasting. 15% on cures is really helpful. Take advantage of Thrill of Battle and second wind. Don't be afraid to use them.

I honestly didn't use materia till 50. Burned through armour too fast to care.

And to the comment above racial stats are nothing at 50. More of a gimmick.

Tanking Ifrit HM is easy with WAR when you know know when to use your wrath - Let the cures land after spike then pump out an inner beast and follow up with infuriate.
