Controller Targeting

Hello everyone. I play mostly pc games using a keyboard/mouse, but have recently tried picking up a controller for xiv. I'm having a somewhat hard time understanding targeting and would like some feedback from anyone either using both keyboard/mouse and controller, or just a controller.

How do you target a player quickly and heal them? By quickly I mean, on my keyboard I press 1 key to heal someone, doesn't matter where they are as long as they are in range. On my controller, I have to first target them, then heal them. Assume i'm trying to heal the 3rd person in a row of people, is cycling through them, then healing them the only way with a controller?

My best answer to this so far has been to make a macro for each party member, and bind each one separately. an example being L+up could be, /ac "Cure" <p1>. L+left could be /ac "Cure" <p2> ect.. cycling through targets just seems extremely slow to me.

For all of you using a controller, what method are you using?
