third party developer API

Hey there ARR community,

Dunno if I'm putting this in the right forum section but I'm wondering about what this game will do for 3rd party developers.

I'd like to make an application which uses characters data (and potentially LinkShell/Free Company data). I could create a web scraper to extract the data, but I am sure that's against some form of ToS (can't be too careful right?). I'd prefer resources provided by the producer (Square-Enix in this case).

Developers who are part of the ARR community, would you like to see a form of "REST API" which gives us access to a read-only version of the Lodestone.

The devs are welcome to most third party add-ons, but I believe they said that the official support for it wouldn't be until around 6 months after release.

In other words, you will unfortunately need to wait until then if you want to be safe.

Have the devs ever said what -kind- of add-ons they'll accept? I'm just fearful of the day we finally do get official support for add-ons, but only things like UI customization will be allowed... or something like that.

As far as I know the major one they don't want is stuff that automates gameplay.

Oh yeah, i don't want those kind either.. I mean things like DBM, MRP or TotalRP, or something to push in chat-bubbles for those that want them. I find it odd that they don't want stuff that automates the game since that's exactly what they built into their macro system though :P

I remember they said in the newsletter that their first addon will be mainly for UI enhancement.
This next part comes from the TOS and may or may not have to do with what the op was asking.
