At first I would just blacklist them, but its turned into a 5 minute chore every time I zone into a city each day. Is there any better practical solution or should I just turn off shout and yell chat completely. Obviously SE doesn't have any GMs watching chat rooms (why). It's unfortunate because before they started spamming people were actually communicating on the server, now after I blacklist the gil spam its dead.
How is it "Obvious" that they don't watch the chat rooms? Just because there is a flood of chat spam, doesn't directly mean that they aren't watching...
Also, you have to account for the various amount of chat text etc. No army of humans can monitor that volume and catch it reliability.
Anyway, just do your best to do your part, make use of /blist add <r> for direct tells, and add those spammers to your blacklist and report if you don't mind doing so. Every little bit helps.
Well, what I do is I first send in a report. They can't do anything about it if no one tells them. Then I blacklist them. If that takes too long, then I guess your only solution is to edit your chat window so that it no longer shows shout. Or, create another chat window that filters out shout, so you can switch between the two when you're in/out of cities.
But honestly, report them if you can, it doesn't take long to open the ticket and copy/paste the chat. The more ammunition SE has, the faster they can act.
It's a shame that most of the gil spammers that I'm blocking are hacked accounts.
