The world I'm in is like a barren wasteland. The ocean town place I'm in doesn't even have general chitchat going on, which is strange since I'm on a supposedly high population world.
Given next to no info on the worlds, which one is the most populous and active regarding NA players? Don't see why they had to split it up, you can't even move between worlds it seems.
You have to remake your Char and every world is NA,JA,EU,DU it's all mix together and Ocean town like you saying no one is in that city there all in ui'dah city go there you see lot's of NA.EU,JA,DU players.

Most people chit chat with their linkshell mates via the linkshell dialogue. So you won't see many people just using /say to communicate. If you want to interact with more people, I'd strongly suggest joining a linkshell.
If you're looking for a linkshell to join, I'd suggest going to the Forum for your server and posting in there.
Also, most people on all servers have migrated to Uldah. If you want to be around more people, head to Uldah. (Jump on the ferry and then follow the path East until it forks South.)
Agreed, just started the game myself and in Uldah people are everywhere (Gyshal sever).
