For making a profit, maintaining gear, ect. They aren't, but they almost are. In to many a games is crafing useless. In this, it has a purpose, and that purpose os making you money, as it should be.
I'm glad that Combat doesn't earn you buckets of Gil faster than crafters can make it. That's how it should be.
