I tanked Odin today
Ran in when he was about 95% health on my WAR. Took aggro from the DPS (who were running around like chickens with their heads cut off) at around 70%.
I tanked him until he was down to about 40%, when I finally died. I held hate on him through multiple 10+ second petrifies, and the heaviest dps/threat that my server could throw at him.
But I died.
And because of that, I got a silver medal. For tanking Odin successfully.

I have now learned my lesson. I will let the DPS and the healers tank, or maybe some other hapless tank who comes by. Because the 20+ healers who were there apparently were more concerned with Stone or Ruin spam to even think about healing the tank (exception; the WHM in my party, who blew her mana pool trying to keep me up solo through 4 stacks of physical debuff + extra physical debuff).
She got a silver too.
So my question is....why is it, when people do their job, they are not rewarded for it? I would have gotten a gold if I hadn't been trying to get hate, like a good tank does. My WHM would have gotten gold if she had more time in Cleric Stance dpsing. Why must we be punished for performing our roles? Especially when both of us were there, doing our jobs, for 95% of Odin's life.

You got silver because you we're level 42 in a level 50 fate. The game flat out tells you that you are below the recommended level for the encounter, and that your contribution will not give as much credit. Aggro give credit easily. As a level 27 MRD off class, I can overpower one time on a clustered mob fate that is my level and usually get gold. Try again at 50, and you will see better results.
-edit- apparently, the forums are not updating our characters correctly. I see on your profile that you are 50, even though the avatar info says 42. Not sure why you didn't get credit, aside from the fact that this particular fate is just so difficult.

Give it some time. Everyone now is rushing in to get their piece of the pie, though I doubt the healers spamming stone, ruin, bio, holy or w/e got anything out of it. People will learn to coordinate in full parties to earn the best rewards instead of Bronze/Silver.
This is not what had been of the community which had to party up for anything they do. It's the instant-microwave-generation that does whatever they want and whenever they want.

Experience has told me that I get better results in FATEs when I spam Stone over Cure. I learn quickly from reproducible results.
FATEs need a reworking.

Best bet to get gold on a FATE is to party up with 7 others of varying roles. All your contribution, tanking/healing/damage gets added together and usually puts you over the threshold to get Gold. When you are solo/duoing FATEs, you are missing out on a lot of the contribution that other, larger groups are gaining. Having a full party and using 1 or more level 2 limit breaks goes a long way to ensuring a Gold.
