Free Company ranking up

Since I can't post this in the companies forum (level 29 is still not high enough level apparently, this forum is silly beyond repair).

Does my selection of Grand Company effect my ability to continue rank points for completing tasks to my free company?

My guild was created under maelstrom, and I am twin addler. It doesn't seem like I am contributing when I do Fates and the such. If so I will switch to Maelstrom as a good portion of my guild has chosen to go in that direction.
