The Teen Titans i mean Egis for FFXIV (This Thread is about the Pet)

So why is Summoner more about the person than the Pet.

Shouldn't the Pet be the focus of job which would make sense because of the name of the job. i.e a Pet Class not a DoT class.
Would be nice to have a decent conversation in here about this.
Just like to state this thread is not about how much you hate smn in 14 or how much you just want it to be another XI-2. If you do bring that up thats cool just do it in a polite way no need to get angry and rude :cool:

This is a opinion piece and it would be nice to hear over people fews and opinions on this matter in the right manner.

Lets talk about the PETS :o.

Lets face it. Summoner is an icon in FF. When fans hear "summoner" an idea comes into mind of large, awesome looking avatars. The strength of the summoner comes from it's summoned avatars. The pets in FFXIV look awful and uninspiring. At least the appearance of the avatars in FFXI were good, even if their use was limited. When you mentioned the other Egis, especially Diabolos, I cringe to think just how awful those are going to look in FFXIV, especially compared to FFXI. Diabolos was probably the best looking summon I had in FFXI, and I absolutely loved summoning him. The first time I saw him in-game I knew I would stop at nothing to get him, and felt like a kid in a candy store when I finally got him. None of the summons in FFXIV inspire this kind of reaction in me. In fact, it was quite the opposite when I saw the Titan-egi and Garuda-egi. I promptly changed classes and haven't touched SMN since.

Even though I've been playing SCH rather than SMN for the most part I think that the reason people think its less about the summon is because the summon is under AI and you don't have to worry about commanding it's abilities. However you do have to manage spur, rouse, sustain, and enkindle so I would prioritize that more to keep your dps as high as possible. The player side of it is more of an Aether sickness medium, infecting enemies with plagued aether.

I'm pretty excited to see now egis, and I'm really satisfied with what they have now. Although I see many summoners and their pets I think it is nice not to see any summoners with a full god at their disposal and more or less a spirit in the image of said god.

I agree with you here Diabolos looked bad ass in FFXI. I try to picture what he will look like in this game and i get a picture of a demon looking fairy. Just a bit bigger than a fairy lol.
Its interesting the direction that they have go in with the Summoner job in XIVARR when you look back at summoner as a job in the other games i did a little bit of digging and some stuff i wrote is what i remember playing the game.

From Final Fantasy III, IV, VI,VII-XIV we was introduce to a SMN.

Final Fantasy 8 allowed u to summon GF 8 was the first for the pets to have there own growth path.

In 9 Dagger was a summoner when she went into a trance her pet would be summoned ever so often it will repair until ether Dagger dies or another pet is called or she comes out of the trance.

FF X on the PS2 gave SE more freedom to make smn fit more of there job description. It being about the pets than the person. Yes Yuna was a SMN/WHM (TMB/RDR).

FF XI pet class. when it comes to III,XII and XIII Summoner was more about the person not the pet. SE over the years has reworked a summoner. Trying to keep it about the pets more than the Person. New hardware allows developers improve on things you wasn't able to do. Then i asked my self have they really gone in the wrong direction here cause you could always go SMN/BLM in XI bahahaha very interesting i think.

Well at least when it's about tanking, it really is about the pet rather than the SMN. Or did you all manage to overtank you Titan Egi ?

I haven't tried Titan Egi yet but i think Topaz Carbuncle is a amazing Tank. I hope Fenrir ends up being near his full size or just a bit bigger than Carbuncle and you able to mount him to that would be amazing.

I've managed to do Dungeon tanking using both Topaz and Titan. I'm having a blast with Garuda-Egi. I would if I could worship Garuda anyway there just something about her.

In all honesty SE is probably not going to do anything about the summons. but i would be 100% fine with the egies if they would at least give the summoners the ability to call for the real ifrit, titan, or garuda during the limit break.
