PVP
You know, a lot of my buddys are 50 and are hitting their second or third class and getting bored. Why not implement a PVP capture the flag/ death match que that all servers can join and battle with? It could be all instanced and it would be small enough but entertaining enough to keep people in the game till content comes out. Their wouldn't have to be rewards just maybe a rank system with K/D ratio or Wins/Loss Ratio, or guild marks you can use to buy your affinities.
The ultimate challenge is facing another player so it would keep us engaged because every game would be different.
Thanks.

Several problems. 1. FF is not a pvp game traditionally. 2. Lack of experience of the developers with pvp(probably). The third and biggest issue, "balance". It would take a lot of time, effort and energy to get things balanced. Every spell and skill would have to be re-evaluated to see what effect it would have in pvp. A lot of them would have to be altered, changing the damage, duration and effect.
It is possible, but it requires a lot of time to make it right. Time that I believe the developers would be better off investing in something else. They are in a race against to clock to make this game work, make it fun, keep people playing and attract new people. And in my opinion a simple pvp-function would not be a big enough feature to make a difference in that.

I agree that some kind of PVP arena thing (not world PVP, that's one thing I will never forgive WoW for popularizing) would be a fun addition, but with the circumstances being as they are it would likely need to be saved for an expansion. Besides which, I've noticed Japanese-developed games focus much more on cooperation than competition, like Monster Hunter, and to get a good working PVP system takes experience and a sense of how competition works. I don't want to cast aspersions on the abilities of the dev team, but at the same time I want them to do what they're best at until the game gets back on its feet.

I'm not sure i'd like the way pvp would function with the combat system but hey XI had ballista i guess.
how 'bout a sport or something?

I like the all server queue idea, servers can battle it out against other servers. Might be fun. I also like the idea of pvp with objectives like hold these three forts etc. Something that isn't just kill x number of players.

Normal PvP is pretty old & used. I want to see unique PVP like sports, racing and mini-games.

I wouldn't support PvP in FFXIV if it would become something like PvP in WoW. eSports and such. It takes way too much balancing each and every patch to balance classes for PvE AND PvP, that balancing them around PvP is just unnecesarry stuff that will in most cases destroy PvE balance anyway.
If its something like Ballista(PvP without giving a **** about balance between classes for PvP) I don't mind.
But as soon as PvP would imbalance classes for PvE...I don't want to see or hear anything of it.

I'm not to crazy about PvP in this game. I played FFXI and didn't like Ballista thier either. PvP in Final Fantasy just doesn't fit, in my opinion.

I say no to PvP through and through. It has too much potential to absolutely ruin the balance of an MMO. For reference, see the watering down of all classes in other MMOs that have attempted to reach a PvE and PvP balance.

I think the instanced pvp is a solution to high end game content. Balance the classes is very difficult but would give a lot of content to the game.
Sorry 4 my English^_^.
