[dev1027] Even Match is not an Even Match

First of all I'd like to say that I am very appreciative of SE adding monster levels next to their name, thank you for that!

This answers a few questions I've had previously but now it raises another. Is Even Match an Even Match anymore? For example: The old "con" system of colored bubbles showed Yellow to be Even Match, per SE. When I was rank 36 I went to Mistbeard Cove and found that every Bigmouth Orobon conned yellow to me. The fight was appropriately difficult for something that should have been even to me.

Now, with the true ranks being shown I see that they are between 40 - 44. Much higher than my rank 35 at the time. A rank 36 monster would then, I would say, be more of an Easy Prey level.

I'm using [dev1027] (Monster Attributes) as a tag because this makes me wonder... Should monsters be made stronger than they currently are? There is a lot of talk of things in the game being too easy in general...

They always were these rank. Even match here aren't like FFXI where that markedonly monsters of your exact same rank.

I do miss the color balls tho...IMO they should enhance the current system so we don't have green ball for passive and red star for aggressive monsters...i'd love having ball for passive, star for aggressive and the color of the icon being the color check classification.

So, using your case as example, orobons would have an yellow star aggroicon instead of a red star aggroicon.

Even Match in FFXI wasn't an Even Match either, more like Tough - Very Tough. At least back when I used to play.

It seems to me that a monster ranked evenly to you should be an even difficulty level. But... I do like to keep things straightforward ;)

well we were never really supposed to see the monster levels, so before it was irrelevant. But really once you get used to it, it doesnt matter, you just look for stuff higher than you.

That said fighting tough mobs, i definately think they need to give you a higher experience cap, monsters 10 levels higher are simply way too easy for parties.

Shouldn't an "Even Match" monster have an equivalent chance of killing you as you killing them....that's definitely not the same as Even Rank.

That's correct if you assume FFXIV even match. Here it indeed was supposed to be and even opponent in strength, not rank. In FFXI tho it does was level-based.

Was even match even your exact level in FFXI? I don't know. That's a better question.

The way I looked at Even Match in FFXI was there was a 50/50 shot of winning. Meaning the mob is evenly matched against you.

Tough/Very Tough means it would be very tough for you to kill it

decent Challenge was a decent challenge to kill but should be doable.

Easy Prey was they would be easy for you to kill.


In FFXIV, I would say even match is a mob 10ranks above you

Guys, there is no more subjective con system. There is no even match labeled by the game. You learn to interpret the spread between your level and the mob's level on your own. Some players' even match is 12 levels above. Some is 10 levels. Some is 8. Game no longer tells you how you should be doing.
