Cait Sith Minion Gone

I'm new at this game and it's becoming very frustrating...I finally managed to get my code to work accepted both the moogle cap and the minion from the mail moogle. But when I try to summon the minion the option is still grayed out. Should I be in some level to be able to use it or is it simply a bug?

Should be able to use it right away. Did you use the item in your inventory first? You can't summon the minion until the related item has been used.

Do you have your Chocobo companion out? minions will be grayed out when it's up
