Half second input lag when playing on TV through HDMI

This is not an issue with FFXIV as this happens even on windows home screen but hoping somebody can help.

I am playing on a laptop with gamepad, using my 48" LED TV as display through HDMI. My problem is every input whether through mouse/keyboard/gamepad has a short delay before it is displayed. I have been trying to find a way to get rid of the lag but nothing is working. Anyone else playing through HDMI that has this issue or has found a way to take care of it?

It is not like a frames per second issue, everything is running very smooth. Just input lag.
