So it says on the agreement "Your account's game data will be restored to a state it was in prior to being compromised."

Does this mean it's better for me not to play with my character? Because i would want all my progress to become nill once they restore the stuff taken from me (only gil which is very weird)

Before some people tell me that i should have been careful. I always wipe internet data and scan my laptop every week. Now that I have been hacked I also attached a token now.

So my main question is should I play the game or just wait till they fix it so that none of my progress or gil earned would be wasted during this time

Wiping your computer doesn't really help in this situation. If at any point you went to a website that was a 3rd party website talking about FFXIV, or downloaded any addons for this game from a 3rd party website, Keyloggers can access your password in the blink of an eye. It's a program, .exe file, that reads every single thing you type.

Even if your computer had found something and you were on the game, you were already too late. The best way to prevent this from now on is 2 ways:

1. Get the SE one time password.
2. Type out your password in a word document (or notepad). Stick it on your desktop named something stupid (Mine is named "List of Animes" since I know nobody would care enough to check this out anyway). Inside this type in your password and save. Every time you go to play the game, just copy and paste your password directly into the password box. This way, keyloggers can not pick up what you have just typed. Keyloggers only can register the keys you typed out in the order you typed them. However, CNTRL-V isn't a password :)

Sorry about what happen :( but this is not the place to ask if you expect SE to answer.

ive already attached a one time password due to this. Fan sites are a baddy now it seems. Ive also sent a ticket already. Sucks that I have to wait and not play wouldnt want my progress to be gone if i play again without SE saying it wont be rolled back.

Virtual keyboard is your friend.
Typing passwords into a word document is nice and all, if its not typed on ur main computer. Since the keylogger will pick it up and try to run it with everything they know.

I was today for the first time ever ( having played 30+ MMO's) "hacked" as in having someone steal all my gil from my character. First I believed it to be a bug as I have a 15+ letter, symbol, upper/lower case password and good protection and doesn't visit fishy sites.

The so called "data recovery" seems like a bad joke. Having to wait 7-10 days for a revert to before your account was compromised is about as amateruish as it get. I know a friend who had a problem in wow and had it solved in less than 2 days and during that time he could keep playing. I suggest you just keep playing and don't bother with the recovery unless they actually removed your characters after emptying them

Cane I know how you feel ive played WoW as well and getting hacked like this was normal there if you had tons of in game currency which I had. It's true they have a better CS there but I'm giving SE a chance. Back in Blizz had my account recovered in less than a day. It sucks But I'll just wait and I hope I'm not waiting for nothing.

I had this problem. I'm going to wait too. But be prepared to wait the full 10 days if the last two weeks are anything to go by.
