FFXIV:ARR gods and birthdays

Is there any real point to choosing a starting deity and birthday? While the deities don't give any attribute bonus, they do give elemental bonus. With that being said, is there a certain deity a certain class should be paired with for the best advantage, no matter how minimal it may be?

Do you think maybe we'll get something cool on the actual birth date chosen?
