Bypassing Instanced battle?

Was doing the main scenario quest "Notorious Biggs" and was told to go to the Daniffen Pass. I had a companion out and when I approached the circle, it said to prepare for an instanced battle; sync from lvl 48. Then, as I know that you can't do the instance with a companion, I stepped back and dismissed the companion. Then, when I reapproached the area, instead of the instance message appearing, I said "examining" as if I had completed the fight and the instanced battle was completely skipped, saying report to wedge.
