Luminary Tools

Are they worth it? Looking at xivdb.com it seems like every DoH and DoL class gets a main hand tool at lv50 that has the exact same stats as the luminary tools. Are they from lv50 craft quests? If so how hard are they?

Regardless, I don't understand why there are 2 separate tools at lv50 with the exact same stats? Specially cause getting the luminary tools are such a grind. Wouldn't it make sens to at least make the luminary stuff the best off hand tool you can get? Right now, I was grinding towards the luminary stuff while leveling my crafts, but if I can get the exact same quality tools at 50 without going through the grind, it seems kinda pointless, no?

My suggestion would be to make them offhand best in slot tools.

No, they're not worth it. Yes, the other lv50 tools are rewarded for doing the class' level 50 quest. The class quest could be difficult depending on your skill at crafting and ability to obtain HQ materials, but many people don't find them to be difficult. DoL is obviously easy, since all you have to do is gather.

The luminaries were introduced in 1.0, back when the other lv50 class tools didn't exist. SE seems to be trying to close the gap between new players and veteran players by making the stuff equivalent to the best equipment in 1.0 easier to get in ARR, thus they have the same stats.

That said, Luminary gear LOOKS much cooler. As vanity items they're still tops.

That kinda sucks though. Hope they do something to them to make them worth grinding for. Although, I suppose that's the point of achievement rewards. Vanity rather than functionality.

Curious, does Luminary tools have those special crafting tables like the Lv50 class quest reward tools does? I really like what they did there.

Nope so in my opinion I like the new ones better. :) Have you seen the carpenter's saw? I feel like old fashion surgeon!

my speculation is that SE will use Luminary as a basis/template for further expansion, something like relic+1

As soon as I heard this information, I unsubscribed. I came to make my own thread for complaining, but what's the point, ya know?

This is a shame (and a slap in the face) for all the players who put in the hours upon hours to get the 12k+ nodes scattered all over Eorzea only to watch their hard-earned tools get handed to people who finished a couple quick quests.

Anyway, the only way to discourage this behavior (and by extension this new direction for MMOs) is to withhold your dollar from SE and give it to someone doing things better. I don't think anyone is perfect, but SE is way off on this one.

Like others have said, it really sounds like these are going to be upgradeable in the future like the relic. I'll be getting it for that.
