Now that I know what Tonberries really are.. I cant bring myself to kill them...
It is somewhat similar to the origins of the Tonberries in XI..
And I've never been able to get myself to kill Tonberries, just look at their cute litt-.. *DOINKED*
I must have skipped through the dialogue that contained it. Anyone willing to explain what they are or were? I'm guessing it's like ffxi where they were human once?
Used to be humans, got sick, become tonberries. Scholar quest touches on this!
I don't recall if this was mentioned but did the disease turn everyone into tonberries or only lalafell?
Well the description of how the disease progressed, ears, nose, and lips rotting away, limbs growing shorter, and skin turning green, could apply to every race, although there would likely be a size discrepancy between the individual Tonberries.
Also the fall of Nym was 1500 years ago, that would be.. The early 5th Astral Era, I think.. At that point most of the races on Eorzea were likely still separating themselves from the others. I seem to recall that the end of the Hyur-Elezen wars, was the beginning of the coexistence between races.. And I don't believe that would have taken place yet, by the time of Nym's fall.
Well we were informed that in an effort to kill those infected with this disease, the healthy Nymians flooded the quarantined sections of their flying cities.
It is a bit of a stretch, but the tail-fins might be an evolutionary reaction to being submerged for a good amount of those 1500 years that have passed since then.
At least helps with explaining how the tonberry leaped off the altar and made it over to the Wanderer's Palace when your group had to go by boat. I wish they actually showed the tonberry actually swimming though :D
Tonberries are the cutest and scariest enemies in the FF universe. I still have horrible memories of 9999 damage from the cute little green guys. My first time through wanderer's palace, i was squealing when the stalkers were chasing us, though i still think SE should have made them do 9999 damage if they caught you. I am now intrigued and will have to finish my scholar!
