only item i can think of which is on the first page of synth recipes and can't be bought from NPCs, and the only one i can think of from the 1-10 guild missions which you cannot buy from NPCs...and it remains a thorn in my side every time i need fish oil!

You can buy it for 10 gil from the fishmonger in Limsa Lominsa.

i know you get them from fishing (though i'm not sure where...also i don't like fishing as much as some of the other DoLs)
i was just curious why princess trout are not sold by NPCs considering it's low level crafting... -

Princess Trout are super easy to fish for in Limsa. They are in the rogue river located in Middle La Noscea! I always get them there. :D
