The one feature FFXIV ARR needs, but doesn't have
A login queue.
Having a login queue from launch would have completely eliminated error 1017, and saved a lot of headaches.
It's not full servers that make people angry, it's the concept of needing to sit and devote many minutes, or maybe hours, just to beat the Lobby boss before playing the game. If people were told, "You're number (625) in queue. Estimated wait time: 26 minutes." this launch wouldn't have been so bad.
As a result of this nightmarish login fiasco, a lot of users (including myself) just leave the game turned on all the time as there is no penalty for being AFK. I just turn all my settings down to low and stare at a wall so my computer is practically idle, then I can play the moment I get home from work, rest XP and all. I agree that this has only made the problem worse for others, but it's the environment SE has introduced us to, and we've adapted. It's a kill or be killed world...
