In game lag - what's the issue?

I've been playing ARR since release (and even in beta) and until last Saturday I've had no problem with it, the game was consistent and running smoothly whenever I was playing.
However, after the update on Saturday I seem to be having some issues with what seems to be lag? The game has a few minutes delay and the latency issues are just annoying - the game is currently unplayable. I don't think its my system and its defiantly not my internet as my brother is running it perfectly fine, we have similar systems. I have reinstalled the game and that doesn't seem to have fixed anything. does anyone have any idea on how to prevent or fix the lag issues in game, I see its been occurring a lot for a number of people.

The capacity for the servers was just increased, it is possible that due to more people connecting the stress on the servers has increased thus causing lag for some players.

Possibly, but this issue occurs every single time I log in... None of my friends seem to have this issue. Its kind of annoying really.

You can try directly plugging your computer in via the Ethernet cable to your router and double check there are no background downloads happening such as antivirus and system updates. Oh also give your computer a little scan, always good to check for everything just incase.
