Hey, can my friends and I play together now?

Like so many others, I purchased Final Fantasy XIV to play with my friends. More than a week after launch, half of the group STILL cannot make characters on our server. I'm not here to complain about login difficulties or the current 3201 error issues. I just want to play the game with my friends. I convinced most of them to buy the game, and it's becoming extremely difficult for me to defend this game and this company.

This morning, one of my roommates asked me why he should even care about Final Fantasy XIV anymore. He paid for it, and he can't play it. You know what? I couldn't give him an answer. It's a great game, but if you can't play it with your friends when that's the express purpose of a multiplayer game, then why care?

I love FFXIV, and I've been patient, but I'm approaching the point that I may soon begin to pursue a refund in a very vigorous and loud manner.

I'm in the same position as you right now.
I have real-friends playing on my server right now, and I've invited my other friends to join me but the second group cannot come into the same server. Now I'm caught between the stones... what can I do? Should I ask the 2nd group to start on the new server so I can character transfer over, and tell my 1st group of friends that I'm ditching them 'cuz it's the way it has to be?

SE should implement a NPC that hands out limited server invite code, which you can give to your friends so that they can join the server.

I have real friends that are all on different servers because of the server lockout. We are all 20 plus and don't want to re-roll another character again. (a few have played betas)
We are a patient group and know you're all working hard, but it's getting about that time. We'd like to play together.

I can tell by your level 43 archer, 15 conjurer, 15 pugilist, and whatever else you have hidden how much you dislike this game, and how little time you've had to play.

20+ takes like 3-4 hours of grinding. If you want to play together, you can go do it now as many servers are open.

I'll admit that I had convinced quite a few people to get XIV, and these are Legacy players, too. See, I was in the beta for 1.0 and I spent my time discouraging people from getting it because it was so terrible. But I was so impressed with what they had done to the game this go around that I had a hard time containing myself (I just mentioned how much I was enjoying myself). Now I can't even create alts on the servers they are on because they've been locked out on new characters since Early Access. And they can't make characters on the server I play on because it, too, is also on the list of restricted servers. I've even tried making a character on a server not on the list only to get the message that the server isn't allowing new characters.

I love this game, I really do. This game is enjoyable when you can get on, but I'm having a hard time convincing friends to stick around because we can't play with each other.

The server you play on was open for character creation several times on and off since maintenance.

It's now on the list of servers with character restrictions. As well as the servers I have friends on. The list can be found Here.

Yeah my server is back on the list too, was off the list this morning, but by the time I pinged my friends about it, they'd already left for work for the day.. sigh.. I hope I can get them on our server, there is no way I'm convincing a dozen legacy players to start over.
