Set your Internet Explorer back to default settings. I never even use IE, so I dunno how the settings in mine would have gotten changed, but this fixed the issue, and the log-in script in the launcher loads properly now.
Try typing "ipconfig /flushdns", into your command promt. Then "ipconfig /release" and finally "ipconfig /renew".
Alternatively, you could just reset your Internet modem. For me, when I reset my modem, my ISP gives me a new IP address. Then I don't encounter the error anymore.
Strangely enough, the error -2146697211 is encountered on certain IP addresses that the server doesn't like.
All of my launcher problems went away when I reverted my version of internet explorer back to an earlier version. You can uninstall (through control panel, PCs) the update to version 10. I inadvertently uninstalled all the way back to version 8 and all my launcher problems went away. I'll reinstall ver 9 after I play awhile.
What does IE have to do with this? I'm playing this on a computer that doesn't even have IE anymore so I can't restore it to an earlier version since it's not there.
ETA: Still not sure what IE has to do with it but the trick with the ipconfig worked. So yay!
I had this issue today, the launcher now works after I removed the mark from box under proxy server in tools>internet options>connections>LAN settings.
The internet security settings made within IE are used by a number of programs. There may be a way to get to these from the control panel - I haven't checked - but the most common way is to make these settings from within IE. You don't have to actually use IE for anything else (I don't) but the security settings are important nonetheless.
I'm getting a system error:404 messagesaying that it can't connect to that site the OP pasted. I've tried everything from new boot files, reinstalling to what is posted in here and I still can't get it to work. Worked fine all day and night sunday, but the next day it refuses to work. Nothing is working.
