So.. no FF Spell names, but only for english ?

Hello everyone,

First im not complaining, just want to know some opinions on this. (can't post in General Discussion)

In Beta there was a gigantic discussion about why we can't have our Final Fantasy Spell names (Fire, Fira, Firaga etc.) but in the end SE refused to change it.
But the thing is, while that's the case for english, its not for German. Germans have ra,ga etc. (Same goes for France and Japanese, they also don't have I, II, II)

It seems a little bit strange to me.

What do you think ? Would you like it to be changed ?

(Oh boy, i hope SE won't change it now for the other languages too :P)

German and French don't have ra and ga... They have full words that have numerical meaning similar to the numbers used in the English version, which happen to ending those suffixes. e.g Extra, Mega. And Japanese do not follow the name conventions because they can't (European languages don't have the syllable restrictions). In fact, it's not even fire, fira, firaga in japanese (if you do the translation). It's fire, fira, figa. It is just convenient to use a fixed number of syllables. Furthermore, there is no need to confuse players by giving the indication that fira is similar to blizzara that is similar to thundara (they are all completely different so why use the naming convention?); so they just number them by the order learned for logical reasons. But you already read this so I don't know why you made a topic on it (which is in fact in the wrong forum and will soon be deleted).

final fantasy games were fire, fire2, fire3 in the beginning all the way to ff 7, so either way is correct.

I don't think the naming of fire II/Fira is being discussed here.

I never got to see the reasoning for not being able to use FF names before, what was the general gist of it? It sounds kind of stupid - I've seen someone named Final Fantasy, multiple spellings of Sephiroth, Tifa, Cid, Terra, etc. I don't see the issue. I myself chose a name based off of my favourite book series, Wheel of Time. What is the problem choosing a name you like? You aren't profiting from it in any way at all.

This topic has already be handled by the devs and they explained why they did it. Look into the dev tracker for details.

I remember no such discussion in beta. And honestly, i don't care for those names. Would rather they stay as they are, feels more like FF and FF7 that way.

sorry i retract that, you are right, i went and put in final fantasy 7 and checked, so it was ff 8 and up and the new names were implemented
