Seriously, WTF? Did all of Europe rush home to log into FFXIV??!!
Guess that settles it... we have an AFK problem on the NA/EU servers?
Sure hope tonight's maintenance puts an end to this crap.

It also doesn't really matter what time it is in any time zone, it's 1017 all the time, all day :)
There is no assumption that it is NA/EU players that are AFK. It is reasonable to assume the active players at this time would be skewed more heavily to the EU players.
Look at the times again:
10AM West Coast - most at school or work
2PM East Coast - again most at school or work
6PM London - most recently got home from school or work, or have just entered the traditional Prime Time time of day.
3AM Japan - most are likely going to bed or in bed already, or at least exiting their traditional Prime Time time of day.
Either there is a BOAT load of EU region players on Midgard at the moment, or there is a butt load of people AFK.
Okipuit and company, please make note of the time frame and pass it on to those guys that are looking into the AFK kick mechanism. This should give a good frame of reference as to what is going on with the server population in the scope of how many are AFK and how many are actively playing. Even with all that has been going on, I've had no problem getting on between 11AM and 1PM Eastern on weekdays. Today I got out to lunch a little later than usual, and it was a full lockout by 2PM.
Tried logging on at 7 AM EST this morning(most of NA should be sleeping still) and still received 1017. So yes, lots of AFKers. Here's hoping they fix it tonight! :)
