Depending on how many people are there, there is a chance your character model didn't load for the people who have access to raise you. Now if you were grouped with someone that could raise and they didn't that's another matter.
But yeah, it needs to record the progress you did while level synced and reward you based on what you did while synced incase you get knocked out of it. -

Ran into that issue with my girlfriend on Lazy Town. She was one level over and needed to Sync but the thing was being moved around too much and she was in and out of the area. Safe to say she didn't get credit for anything. The idea of syncing to them is nice but like Rillifane mentioned, they should record the progress and not wipe it if you happen to step out whether it was on purpose or by accident.
