Hey all blacksmith!

Recently started leveling my blacksmith so I could try my hand at the crafting portion of 14 so I could start being a more productive member of Besaid.

I am wondering if my crafting should be failing as much as it is. I just bought some crafting gear(or at least what I could find in the market ward) and my level 12 hammer so I could try to make bronze fish hooks but for some reason it doesn't even feel like my stats are helping me at all. I still am failing about 40% of my fish hooks and only getting 300ish sp per success.

Is there a better way to level blacksmith? I just find it really strange I can just behest on a DoW class and hit 20 pretty easy in a good session with out to much trouble. But trying to level blacksmith feels just like a huge chore where I find myself just closing my eyes and hitting enter every 7 or so seconds and just taking the hit if my synthesis fails.

Doing Rank15 Local leve now should give you 300~700+sp.
After you reach Rank15, take Rank20 Local leve. (Rank15 if no Rank20 available)

Make sure you use Master Facility at Blacksmith guild to help you grinding and doing leves.

Fish hooks are the most frustrating stretch of blacksmith because they require a book. If you don't have the book, you lose a ton of durability. SE probably set them up to be harder than normal because the mats are so low.

Your bread and butter grind will be 4-nugget metal weapon head synths.
Good alternatives are needles when they pop up in the stretch.
Luxury grinds are 3-nugget goldsmith-crossover javelin heads.

As cheap as hooks are to spam, I'd avoid them. Sounds like they're still frustrating to grind on.

Guild Support does NOT help you in grinding/success on Synths. It is ONLY for recipes that require it. Other then that, Guild Support does NOTHING to help you succeed more synths.

Well, he forgot to say that its "rumored" to only affect onlu recipes that need it. There is no official info regarding guild buffs so everything is just rumor, just like be facing a certain direction or waiting a certain moon to craft.

People can just assume a certain theory from someone of from a certain fansite is true, but its still just a theory until SE say something (which might not ever happen...they never did after years of FFXI...so they might not here aswell)

If you prefer some different theory, the one i use (and, for me, has been more trustworthy), i like the one that says that each buff adds you a temporary rank to your class (common +1, guild +2 and master +3) and the recipes facility request actually adds a rank to recipe (common +1 and guild +2).

So, following this theory, if you have guild buff and the recipe requires guild buff, you will be receiving no bonus at all because one will be canceling the other.

But, again, these are all theories. I also like be facing north while crafting. I heard a theory about facing north helping you get better SP from each synth and be facing south helping you with HQ chances...after a few tries it does looked correct to me so i just adopted it. But no one can confirme or deny any of these theories so you can just have your own tests and adopt the one you feel its correct. ^^

It is pretty much a fact that Support does nothing for your grinding/success chances unless the recipe requires the Support. Easiest way to devalue your theory is. Try a synth that you are just about to be able to attempt(i.e. 10 ranks above you). Grinding on something thats 10 ranks above you is almost always a very hard synth with a lot of botches guaranteed. Your theory would make Master Support counting as if the recipe is only 7 ranks higher now, which in most cases makes every grinding recipe viable to grind on. Use Master Support on a synthesis thats 10 ranks above you and you will notice no difference at all. Compared to that, try a synth that requires Support of any kind which you're more than 10 ranks above and you will fail a lot more just because you are missing the Support.

Of course this is all based on my personal experience...but I crafted a lot so far and Support never did anything. After 100+ synths with Support, and 100+ synths w/o on the same Rank with the same grinding recipe, there was no difference at all, where in you're theory Master Support(3+ Ranks) would make a huge difference, cause when I'm really 3 ranks higher in my craft the synth becomes more then just noticably easier.

Rank is THE thing in the game that affects everything so much, that you can notice a huge difference in each rank you gain. If Support is supposed to work like a "Rank buff" you would notice something, but you don't. Grinding on any recipe with or w/o support never did anything, where synthing something that requires support and you don't have it will make a huge difference. And everybody I know who grinded several crafts to 50 so far all noticed the same. Support doesn't do anything unless the recipe requires it.

Well, i do feel synthesis noticeble easier with master buff when they require no buff. Its like i said...everyone need to try the theories and adopt the ones they feel that work.

Maybe you don't because your equipment is too weak or too good...maybe its just coincidence...but i do notice how easier synths can become with master buff...but, anyway, it would be exactly like ingenuity...can you notice any difference when you use it?

Ingenuity makes a difference and pretty much everyone who has Ingenuity notices it as well. There is that occasional 3/4 fails even with Ingenuity up, but most of the time you have successful synths even on stuff 7-8 ranks above you.
I don't claim my word is the genesis, but I crafted a lot...really a lot and I can safely claim that Support did nothing for me the whole time. In fact I always just "assumed" it does something and used it until I hit early/mid 30s on my main crafts and noticed all the high rank crafters don't use support. So I started to try it for myself if there is any noticable difference with or w/o Support and after hundreds of thousands of synths, it made no difference except for lowering my Gil...
