[Suggestion] Ballista

I think as a first form of PvP we should have the good ol' Ballista..
Just as it was in FFXI.. it would be rank capped and inherit all the other rules.. I think it would be fun to see what combination of skills people would use in a pvp environment..

Problem is I don't think many people would actually do it.
I don't know which FFXI server you were on (I was on Odin), but I lost count the amount of times I would run through an area and see the message for Ballista saying it was cancelled due to lack of participants. But hey, I guess if it was there before anything like Brenner or a sole form of "dueling"/pvp then it may work ^^

No thanks, I would rather they came up with something different, not that I really want to see PVP in this game at all.

I didn't participate in PvP in FFXI either.. I think I was roped into doing Brenner twice with an event LS. But if they put some form of PvP in FFXIV it doesn't mean that anyone is forced to do it. I went quite happily for 5 years not doing PvP and still enjoyed a lot of other content in the game. I don't see the harm in giving people the choice ^^

I don't think people are against it for any other reason that it's "not their thing" or they don't find it fun. I did Brenner twice but it was just not a part of the game I was interested in- I preferred other team events such as BCNMs, Einherjar, Nyzul, Salvage or Limbus a lot more instead. However, just because it is not something I personally find enjoyable, and it has nothing to do with direct competition, I am not against there being something like it in game and giving others the choice to do it.

You hit the nail on the head Shika, optional; never forced. In regards to the ballista thing, it was really fun for a year or so. . .When people actually you know, played it. . .

I'm thinking of making a dev tag suggestion post about PVP to gauge other opinions on it but, in my opinion the main issue ballista had was its inaccessibility. What I mean is, for example take WoW; in WoW if you want to play consensual PVP, you just run to the NPC (in the case of Warhammer you can even do it from anywhere) and sign up to play, go do your thing until the game has enough people, and when it does you get a popup to tele you to play in the battleground (a place similar to the beaches of Brenner you get tele'd to etc). This is simple, easy, accessible, and fun even for non PVPers who are just bored.

In contrast? What we had in XI was you must WAIT until SE's schedule'd matches and you had to sometimes run to the field manually. This resulted in me setting alarms for something like 4 am to just play a match of ballista that was usually cancelled. Or you could make your own ballista match in Jueno that was annoying, cumbersome, and required you to manually gather friends/pugs for however long it took to get a decent amount of people.

It is obvious to me that this was one of, if not THE biggest reason PVP failed horribly in FFXI. Since only a small % of the FF player base is a harcore PVPer, the rest either being pvp-curious when bored/casual PVPer or not interested at all. . I think accessibility like I mentioned above, and possibly even cross-server options would insure that the % of people want to try PVP or live for PVP will always have PVP to do.

Give me a card game or a casino where I can gamble against other players, I would like to see the coliseum opened for 1 on 1 battles.

I just don't see the appeal of group PVP or large scale PVP.

I think most of us would rather help each other than compete against one another, I also find PVP creates a lot of douche speak and makes people less tolerant of one another, I want this game to have a good community not one where everyone is jeering at one another.

Im with shiko on this one. The game lacks in-game content and any type of in-game content would make the game better. Like shiko said...no one is forced to participate in these events. But at least its there for people to play or try when they want. Take a game with 100 things to do in it and take the same game and put in 101 things to do...I will want to play the 101 version =D
