Small tips on making gil

I would like to share some small tips on making gil, not that I have a lot or that I am perfect at it.
If you are being starting, do main scenario and side quest.
Level a craft, synth items that you know others will need and sell fast or items that you know you will need to keep leveling your craft that do not require much of an investment. In my case I do synths that require 1-2 items, max 3. Sell shards/crystals, only if you are sure you will not need them in a near future.
Since game is just starting and not everybody has lots of gil, be considerate to others, sell on small quantities, let's say stacks that do not pass 20k total or so.
Put a price that you will profit on, keep prices close to latest sells, do not lower prices. Keep a mix of item quantity and prices. Be sure to at least at some point use shitty accesories, that you know you will not need, when they are ready, convert them into materia and sell them. Materia is sold for good.
Also If you need some quick money you can do fate or leves

A few tips from someone who's made over half-a-million gil since launch

- look for raw resources that are the first tier above what the vendors sell(see below) - players are powerleveling crafts and will pay more for items they can't obtain themselves or do not want to invest the time obtaining them

- know what raw materials the vendors sell - the Tradecraft vendor in the market areas sells Tier 1 materials - the vendors in guild hall sell some Tier 2 and Tier 3 materials far cheaper than the normal Marketboard price - many of these guild hall items are cross class components not made by the class hall you are at
(there's good profit to be made undercutting those that are trying to gouge other players who don't know what's available on vendors - example:cotton bols can be 50 to 100gil on the marketboard - they are available on a vendor for 10 gil! If you them for 15 to 20 gil you still turn around a small quick profit and help normalize the price at a more reasonable level)

-know what finished items the vendors sell Many of the vendors right in the main city market area sell weapons, gear, and jewlery that players are trying to sell on the marketplace for a 10X markup (there a huge amount a room to find a good selling point between the gougers and the NPC price) Vendors out in the world sell even higher level items(again there's room for profit between the NPC price and the 10X player markup)

-find items you can cheaply make using vendor materials and resell for a quick profit (example: bat fangs are only 25 gil on a vendor - bat fang earrings and necklaces sell quickly on the marketboard for 500 to 1000 gil - bat fang earrings are actually available on the jewlery vendor for 385 gil *rolleyes*)

-learn the normal selling price for raw materials, components, and finished items you want to focus on
* when market prices are far below the normal buy them up for future use, resell in small quantities(1's and 2's), or hang on to them until the market normalizes
* when market prices are far above normal - sell resources you've stockpiled at a reasonable markup from normal or craft those items and sell, sell, sell!
(There's good karma to be had for not gouging other players here - if your retainer names are well known in an item by frequent consumers they may even buy your items when lower prices are there out of loyalty.)

-See what items are needed for Tradcraft Leves, Grand Company Supply missions, etc - those items are going to be selling more rapidly to players that don't craft or those that want to make some quick XP or Grand Company script without crafting - HQ items give double Tradecraft Leve rewards and 50% more Grand Company rewards so they sell at a premium


I don't buy into never undercut because often exploitative players or worse gold sellers will try to monopolize a market sector for a time buying up everything then reselling at insane markups trying to set a new 'normal'. If you want to be a respectable member of the economic community don't sell at more than a 3X markup from normal - if you or you and guildmates, friends ect. can keep up supply the gougers or gold sellers simply end up wasting a lot lot of gil buying up your items and you make a hefty profit. If your selling too low you've probably made some new player who doesn't have a lot of money very happy or someone else bought your items and resold them for a small profit. When prices get stupid normal players simply quit buying things - everyone makes more gil when the marketboards are full of activity instead of just a place for the 1%'s to monopolize.

Essentially take advantage of how lazy people are. Supply and demand, like in real life.

Paying 4 extra dollars for a hamburger you KNOW you can make for probably 1$ in your kitchen doesn't stop you from buying it. Even though yours tastes better too.

Be THAT guy/girl if you want to make money in the game.

I targeted during leveling what item I was missing to keep my set up to date as much as possible. Found the NPC that sold that Item, and placed them on the MB for 300% mark up. They sold, 5-8 a day.

i'm a level 34 miner, all i do is farm shards and monitor the market, buy cheap sell high, and farm for shards all the way. Don't farm the wrong shards, not all comes with good price. You need to make big sacrifice because you can't enjoy the game much besides farming shards which is boring, but it paid off, i'm a millionaire now with a level 34 miner and only level 27 Gla. Now all i do is waiting for more higher level crafter so that the crafted item price will drop hopefully.

People are lazy to farm it because its boring, take advantage of it before someone starts doing it. Trust me, i'm earning big now. I'm a businessman real life and i'm glad i made money in game too.

I just look at the MB and inflate the prices of all the items that have the quantity 0.

I thought it was weird when the OP started talking about making 500k gil since launch lol...
