Why wouldn't SE at least have more servers ready?

If you are a company as big as SE, WHY wouldn't you at least have more servers in reserve for launch? Why would you only have a first and last line of defense, and not a back up plan? Instead they had to witness the best worst case scenario and then call up the serer salesmen for some more servers...

I think 1.0 proved how out of touch SE is with the MMO community. Does this just further prove that they really just aren't that good at what they do? If they are this inept, should we worry about all future content/products when it comes to MMOs.
