Linking of original FFXIV account

So here's my story;

I was greatly looking forward to the original release of FFXIV and pre-ordered and purchased the collectors edition. I set up and started playing the original FFXIV without too much difficulty, but hated the game and stopped playing after a couple of weeks.

Now this was before the inception of Square Enix accounts, so I never linked that original FFXIV account to a Square Enix account. Now I've read that anyone who owned an original copy of the game didn't need to buy a realm reborn, but after a couple of days trying to figure out how to link my old FFXIV account to my Square Enix account, being unable to, even opening a customer service ticket only to get a response saying "Your ticket has been closed to prioritize more important matters", I decided just to go out and buy a copy of a realm reborn.

Though I am on the verge of completely swearing off Square Enix as the worst gaming company of all time, I am curious if there is any way to access my old pre-order content and get back on my original account for a realm reborn when the servers are finally sorted out.

Basically my registration code for the original game says it's naturally already been registered, my Square Enix code says it's invalid and even my security token code is now apparently invalid.

If there's any clear-cut instructions on what I need to do to get my old account back up and running so I can access the pre-ordered content I already forked out for, it would be appreciated. Thanks!
